Kenmore Heritage Society – Then and Now

The Kenmore Heritage Society (KHS) was founded in 1998, the same year our area incorporated as a city, and to this day is dedicated to the research, preservation, and celebration of the stories of the people from these surroundings — past, present, and future.

 

As an all-volunteer, 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, KHS seeks to foster a spirit of community by building an awareness and appreciation of the Kenmore’s past, while highlighting ongoing efforts that support our mission of being Informative, Inspiring, and Inclusive.

 

To accomplish this, over the years KHS has sponsored or partnered with others to present events and activities that bring people together, recognize those who have made significant contributions to our community, and promote voices that have been historically suppressed or underrepresented.

With many hands and hearts on board, Kenmore Heritage Society has helped Kenmoreans to:

 

Explore and nurture our natural environment:

·       Tl’ awh-ah-dees Park renaming and opening

·       Native plant identification at Tl’ awh-ah-dees Park

·       History Hikes in Kenmore parks

·       Earth Day at Rhododendron Park

 

Learn about our different cultures and individual stories:

·       Poster displays and activities at The Hangar

·       Pop-Up Museum

·       Thirsty First Lecture and Libations

 

Connect with our city’s businesses and development as a city:

·       Log Boom Park History Path

·       Kenmore Walk / Scavenger Hunt

·       Veterans Memorial installed at Kenmore City Hall

·       Kenmore Farmers’ Market

 

Enrich education:

·       Classroom and student scholarships

·       Heritage internships for university students

·       Family and Culture Night for elementary students

·       History Kits for classroom use

 

Celebrate the season:

·       Juneteenth activities

·       Fun Photo contest

·       Tree lighting & Santa photos

·       Holiday Market

·       Winter sno-globe craft

 

Have fun and get to know our neighbors:

·       Summer Block Party

·       “Food and Fun” talk and picnic at Rhododendron Park/Kenmore Senior Center

·       Comedy Night at Kenmore Community Club

·       Concerts in St Edward’s Park

 

Recognize continuing contributions to the enrichment of our community:
